Kurnool

Kurnool is a district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. This district derives its name from its chief town Kurnool which is its headquarters. The name Kurnool is said to have been derived form 'Kandanavolu'. It was the capital of former Nawabs, Capital of Andhra Pradesh State from 1st October 1953 to 1st November, 1956. It has a population of 4053463 as per census 2011. It is bounded by Mahabubnagar district of Telangana in the north, Raichur district of Karnataka in the northwest, Bellary district of Karnataka in the west, Ananthapur district in the south, YSR Kadapa district in the South East and Prakasham district in the east. It has an area of approximately 17,658 sq km.
